Bayou Rebel

© John McFee, Stu Cook

Down around Bay Minette
Over toward Spanish Fort
Pirates used to make a stand
Alligators holding court
Fillin’ up the swamp with trouble
Wilder than a ragin’ storm
Bayou rebels    … Uh huh…

Now come along moonless nights
You can hear the rebel yell
Echoes across the water
The stories that the trees could tell
Now you don’t have to fight the man
You don’t have to fight yourself
Bayou rebel…

I said-uh oh, no no no
Bayou rebel
Oh, no no no
The rivers run down
Oh, no no no
Bayou rebel
Oh, no no no
Standin’ your ground – uh huh

Cypress trees and Spanish moss
No one tells them where to grow
Every day’s a Mardi Gras
Never let the flame burn low
You don’t have to look for trouble
Trouble’s gonna come and go
Bayou rebel…

I said-uh oh, no no no
Bayou rebel
Oh, no no no
The waters run down
Said-uh oh, no no no
Bayou rebel
Oh, no no no
Standin’ your ground – uh-uh huh

When The Sun Don’t Shine

© John McFee, Stu Cook, Keith Knudsen

There’s a shadow here
Movin’ down from the sky
When the light of day
Shines down on the blind

You look through the burning darkness
For where to draw the line
You’ll see what you want to see
When the sun don’t shine
When the sun – when the sun don’t shine

When the waters lie still
When confusion fills the land
Across the empty night
Hope moves through the shifting sands

We look through the blazing darkness
Searching for a sign
We’ll see what we wanna see
When the sun don’t shine
When the sun don’t shine

Shaded doorways can be opened
Shadows need the light
We fill the night with dreams unspoken

We look through the blazing darkness
Searching for a sign
We’ll know if we’ve found our dreams
When the sun don’t shine
When the sun – when the sun don’t shine
When the sun don’t shine

The Men Who Would Be King

© John McFee, Stu Cook, Keith Knudsen

High wire – no net, center ring
Outsider – ice on the beach
On fire – cross wind, take off speed
Blind desire – no time to eat

Swift as a shadow
Short as any dream
Brief as the lightning
The men who would be king

Red letter – blue note, any key
Fun blender – neon disease
No measure – bedroom comedy
Short timer – street royalty

Swift as a shadow
Short as any dream
Brief as the lightning
The men who would be king

We write today
Upon tomorrow’s page
The ink won’t fade

Wall climbing – unknown tendency
Hard driving – loose property

Swift as a shadow
Short as any dream
Brief as the lightning
The men who would be king

Hunger

© John McFee, Stu Cook, Keith Knudsen

I can look but I’m out of luck when I want your touch – uh huh
Just a glance and a word and you’re gone and it’s not enough – uh uh
I really want to get this right
I only know what I’m feeling
I never told you ‘til tonight
You won’t mistake my meaning

Hunger…
Hunger…
Hunger…
Hunger…

I won’t try to pretend that I’m more than the man I am – uh uh
If you want me to fill a need I believe I can – uh huh
Wrap your love around me tight
No other girl’s gonna catch my eye
It’s not that kind of appetite
Only you can satisfy my

Hunger…
Hunger… only you…
Hunger…
Hunger…

Wrap your love around me tight
No other girl’s gonna catch my eye
It’s not that kind of appetite
Only you can satisfy my

Hunger…
Hunger… only you…
Hunger…
Hunger… satisfy my…

Hunger…
Hunger…
Hunger…
Hunger…

Ghost Dance

© John McFee, Keith Knudsen

In the moon of the drying grass
Came the word of the prophet’s dance
From Standing Rock proud dreams renewed
Ghost dance, please be true

Brother spirits of times gone past
All of our people together at last
Sweet water flow under the moon
Ghost dance, please be true

Living faith in the wise man’s sight
In the dance of the ghost tonight
Wild horses will run with us soon
Ghost dance, please be true

Take It Off

© John McFee, Stu Cook, Keith Knudsen

Headin’ cross town with the dust cover down – takin’ off to take it easy
Foot to the floor got our heads in the clouds – higher strung than Paganini
Too hot – movin’ past the red line, overheat and overflow
Don’t stop – blowin’ by the road signs, baby somethin’s gotta go
Who cares what anybody’s thinkin’
Nothin’ can come between us

Take it off – take it off
Take it off – take it off
Take it off – take it off
Take it off…

We don’t need a lot if we use what we’ve got – everything in vogue is bogus
If we’re cold or we’re hot – if we’re on or we’re not
We’ll do more than scratch the surface
Too hot – burnin’ to the touch, got me workin’ up a head of steam
Don’t stop – I can’t see enough, but I think I see where this can lead
We’ll shake the fabric to the floor
We’ll find out less is more

Take it off – take it off
Take it off – take it off
Take it off – take it off
Take it off…

Take it off – take it off
Take it off – take it off
Take it off – take it off
Take it off…

Kisses In The Rain

© John McFee, Stu Cook, Keith Knudsen

This time it’s right – kisses in the rain out in the night
It’s right this time – I can put the top down you can drive
Me and you – the story of the princess and the fool
But I’m not foolin’ now

This time it’s right – laughin’ as the moon blows out of sight
It’s right this time – kisses in the rain still on my mind
You and me – too late to put the fruit back on the tree
Oh, but it still tastes sweet

You and me – too late to put the fruit back on the tree
Oh, but it still tastes sweet

This time it’s right – runnin’ on the beach into the tide
It’s right this time – kisses in the rain still on my mind
Oh, yeah – kisses in the rain…

I Couldn’t Help Myself

© John McFee, Stu Cook, Keith Knudsen

Back in the past – the future was a blast
Summa cum laude of the woodshop class
He’s really on his way – my teachers used to say
Every year I spent in the eleventh grade
I had to see – all that I could be
Graduated straight into the infantry
Love came along – maybe it was wrong
I guess the general didn’t want a son in law

Wo oh – woh – woh
I couldn’t help myself
Wo oh – woh – woh
I couldn’t help myself

I didn’t qualify – to herd French fries
Burned out my credentials for the unemployment line
Then I set my sights – I had to specialize
The protective applications field caught my eye
Tires of every style – upholstery by the mile
My kingdom was the car wash – drivin’ me wild
The owner was a Hun – why’d he come undone?
I only took his Jaguar on a trial run

Wo oh – woh – woh
I couldn’t help myself
Wo oh – woh – woh
I couldn’t help myself

I finally saw the light – my flock grew overnight
Minister of Holy Condos Theme Park site
I lost the people’s love but I’m forgiven from above
I hope the judge’ll let me keep my Persian rugs…

Wo oh – woh – woh
I couldn’t help myself
Wo oh – woh – woh
I couldn’t help myself

Quicksand

© John McFee, Stu Cook

A walk through the world of love is full of mystery
I’ve been lost but the stars above never used to comfort me
But when I walked alone
I heard your siren’s call
I tried to run away
Oh, but I couldn’t move at all

Quicksand – I can’t fight it to get free
Quicksand – I’ve fallen in too deep

If I could have seen it comin’ I would have just stayed away
But now as we get in deeper, I see there’s no escape
If it was just the law
I’d go to Mexico
I think I’m in for life
But oh, what a way to go

Quicksand – I can’t fight it to get free
Quicksand – I’ve fallen in too deep

In love, insane, in trouble, it’s always been the same to me
In time, inside, instead, you’ve made me see it differently
Well, I’ve fallen now
Yeah, I’m sinkin’ slow
I believe I’m trapped
But oh, what a way to go

Quicksand – I can’t fight it to get free
Quicksand – I’ve fallen in too deep
Quicksand – I can’t fight it to get free
Quicksand – I’ve fallen in too deep

Lookin’ For Trouble

© John McFee, Stu Cook, Keith Knudsen

Palm trees through the red smog, workin’ a dead job
Out in the valley, rivers of concrete
Fire in the canyon, jam on the highway
Feel the ground shake

Don’t know where the day went, child of the Sunset
Down on the strip, personal dragnet
Blastin’ for gold, after the show
Lost in the neon under the Rainbow

Lookin’ for trouble
On a renegade ride
Lookin’ for trouble
There ain’t nothin’ to fight tonight

Professor of street talk, school of the sidewalks
Study in leather, multiple gender
Runaway talent, live entertainment
Stars in the pavement

Don’t know where the night went – victim of Sunset
Illegal tender casually misspent
How many days spent in the darkness
Too many ways to run down the innocence

Lookin’ for trouble
On a renegade ride
Lookin’ for trouble
There ain’t nothin’ to fight tonight

Relentless

© John McFee, André Pessis

In the air, underground
On the edge of out of bounds
Dream love, big tease
T-t-t-turnin’ up the heat
Endless visions of lipstick and lace
On the screen in the magazines, everyplace
Even if I wanted, I couldn’t escape

Relentless
Rele-e-e-e-e-e-entless
Relentless…
Won’t let me be

Hard sell, non-stop
‘Round the world around the clock
Bare flesh, tight jeans
Tryin’ to find a new extreme
Tantalizin’, struttin’ that stuff
I think it’s too much but it’s never enough
It must be workin’ ‘cause it’s workin’ me up

Relentless
Rele-e-e-e-e-e-entless
Relentless…
Won’t let me be

In the air, underground
On the edge of out of bounds
Dream love, big tease
T-t-t-turnin’ up the heat
Endless visions of lipstick and lace
On the screen in the magazines, everyplace
Even if I wanted, I couldn’t escape

Relentless
Rele-e-e-e-e-e-entless
Relentless…
Won’t let me be

Relentless – I’m a-talkin’ about it now
Rele-e-e-e-e-e-entless
Relentless…
Won’t let me be

Young Ones

© John McFee, Keith Knudsen

Lookin’ through some pictures
Travelin’ back in time
It takes me back to your first September
Of finger paints and schoolyard rhymes
There’s a special feelin’
In seein’ how you’ve grown
I tried to give you an education
Well you’ve given me my own

Young ones – takin’ on the world
Young ones – waitin’ your turn
Young ones – I know what you’re goin’ through
I was once a young one too

You test the ground you walk on
To find your own way
A young man takes a young girl’s hand
They make tomorrows out of yesterdays
Tomorrow, she’s a bandit
Takes what you have today
But there’s a fire behind your eyes
You don’t have to let her take

Young ones – takin’ on the world
Young ones – waitin’ your turn
Young ones – I know what you’re goin’ through
I was once a young one too

Young ones – takin’ on the world
Young ones – takin’ your turn
Young ones… young ones… young ones
I feel what you’re goin’ through
Inside I’m still a young one too

Cold Night For Alligators

© Roky Erickson

It’s a cold night for alligators
It’s a cold night for dogs
The dogs choke on their barkin’
When they see alligator persons
In the bog and fog

It’s a cold night for alligators
Hiding behind the trees with moss
Forever hear the swamp birds singin’
They’re forever a loss

It’s a cold night for alligators
In the blend
It’s a cold night for alligators
A perfect monster has no end

Wild Night

© Van Morrison

When you brush your shoes, stand before the mirror
And you comb your hair, grab your coat and out
And you walk wet streets tryin’ to remember
All the wild night breezes in your memory ever

And everything is so complete
When you’re walkin’ out on the street
And the wind catches your feet and sends you flyin’, cryin’

Oooh wee! – wild night is calling
Oooh wee! – wild night is calling

All the girls walk by dressed up for each other
And the boys do the boogie woogie on the corner of the street
And the people passin’ by stare in wild wonder
While the inside juke box roars out just like thunder

And everything is so complete
When you’re walkin’ out on the street
And the wind catches your feet and sends you flying, crying

Oooh wee! – wild night is calling
Oooh wee! – wild night is calling

And the wild night is calling
Wo, the wild night is calling
Come on out and dance
Whoa, come on out and make romance
Come on out and dance
Come on out and make romance

And the wild night is calling
Oh the wild night is calling
Come on out and dance
Come on out and make romance
Come on out and dance now honey
I’m goin’ out and make romance
