Sonic Past Music founder, CEO, and artist Joey Stec is featured with an interview in the April 2008 issue of Music Connection. He talks about the philosphy of Sonic Past Music, gives the inside scoop on Rick Springfield’s Early Sound City Sessions, and tells his part of the story about the Buckingham/Nicks demo that may never get released.

Well then it’s been quite the past two months I’d say, we can start by announcing that the paper work from Mr. Stu Cook is finally in hand, and we will began remixing and mastering the Jackdaw CD. These are fabulous recordings made by John McFee (vocals/guitar) and Keith Knudsen (drums) of the Doobie Brothers along with Stu Cook of CCR (bass). These tracks were recorded in 1990 / 1991 and I mean, these guys played! We are looking at a late April or early May release.

We have so much news, let’s see now the big news of the day - Mr. John McFee has also become a partner in Sonic Past Music. John will be developing, procuring and producing/mixing various properties for our catalog, as doing artwork for the label. John, happy to have you on board!

OK - so for new releases we have, The European Sun Session by Elvis Presley which is on PoppyDisc / After Hours, a UK label that Sonic Past Music will be making partially available here soon.

We have a rare jewel - Lord Buckley. In tribute to him, his son, Crown Prince Richard Buckley has dedicated 8 great songs to the memory of Lord Buckley. This is the coolest CD ever! More on that soon…

Sonic Past Music is proud to announce that we have made a distribution deal with INgrooves. Our first releases through them will be starting April 22, 2008. They will be handling advertising as well as promo and marketing. This should be something to watch.

We have also started shopping Sheila Ryan Caan’s book Fame On Me about her 3 years with Elvis Presley; this is hot and we will be keeping you posted as to the publisher and movie interest.

Since we last posted our goings on we have come up with some new big releases. We have joined Joe Foster’s UK label After Hours/Poppydisc, which is the valued classic early 50s release label in the United Kingdom releasing everything from Elvis Presley to Rick Nelson, Gene Vincent, Johnny Otis and many other greats. We will be distributing some of these jewels through this year on Sonic Past Music.

Randy Meisner, the golden voice of the Eagles‘ “Take it to the Limit” has put together a group and is now working out the details for opening some dates for the The Doobie Brothers on West Coast leg of their US Summer tour this year, and possibly more dates on that tour in other regions of the US as well.

The Elvis book, Fame On Me by Sheila Ryan Caan is completed, and is awaiting a release date.

Sonic Past Music is entering into a digital distribution deal with INgrooves; we should have everything in the hopper with a go date of April 5, 2008 or earlier.

Sony Music Japan has made a deal with Sonic Past Music and has licensed The Millennium’s Pieces album for five years which will give SPM a chance at getting our product into China in time for the Olympics, as Sony Japan have been made the music ambassador to China. We are featured in the March edition of Japanese music publication Strange Days with photos and 90 minute interview.

Coming soon from Sonic Past Music is Elvis Presley’s European Sun Sessions. This CD contains over 25 tracks, some of which have never been released in the USA, as well as a few acetate demos, and a live performance from 1954.

We have now baked the tapes for the Jackdaw album, which was recorded in 1990 and 1991 and never released. Jackdaw was a supergroup comprised of John McFee of the Doobie Brothers and Clover on guitar and vocals, Stu Cook of Creedence Clearwater Revival on bass and Keith Knudsen of the Doobie Brothers on drums. After baking the tapes we sat and listened and were amazed at how great this record is!

Sonic Past Music has developed our first infomercial; it will start to air on TV coast to coast April 15, 2008.

Finds Recording Home at Sonic Past Music
Label Releases 5 Meisner CD Projects

Los Angeles CA, December 7, 2007—In 1972, Randy Meisner and three of his musician friends, signed with Asylum Records and called themselves, The Eagles. Ten albums later, and with the accolade of being part of “The Best Selling U.S. Band of all-time,” Meisner decamped, and Sonic Past Music is privileged to have five of his CDs distributed on their label. LIVE IN DALLAS was recorded in 1978 and features Meisner at the peak of his performing career. The CD includes his solo version of many of the Eagles favorites that he wrote as well as newer Meisner solos.

LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME ALONE is a compendium of Randy’s unreleased favorites…some having been recorded by The Eagles and others that have never been heard before.

MEISNER, SWAN AND RICH has Randy hooking up with Memphis songwriting legend Billy Swan and Alan Rich in the late ‘90s. The album features many of Rich, Sr.’s classic hits and recent Jerry Lee Lewis’ (Rich’s godfather) material. The album is Randy’s first collaboration, post-Eagles.

THE DRIVIN’ DYNAMICS showcases Meisner’s first group and proves why they were one of the top touring attractions in the Midwest. In 2001, The Dynamics celebrated their 40th anniversary and performed for thousands at a celebration in Oregon with all previous members on hand.

HELP THE POOR is the group Randy joined after leaving The Drivin’ Dynamics. The band left Colorado and headed to Hollywood in the mid-‘60s. This album draws from never released material recorded by the band. Decca, Loma and York Records released several singles by Help The Poor, but did not release an album by the group.

Sonic Past Music was formed as an outlet for Meisner and other popular and recognizable artists to commercially release albums that have been previously unavailable or were not released on any label. Sonic Past founder, Joey Stec explains, “In today’s fractured music industry we don’t have to be 19 and mainstream to put out our albums, it’s okay to cater to a niche market. These titles are by artists that made their mark primarily on the West Coast in the ‘70s and ‘80s. They are my friends, colleagues and family. Collectively we’ve spent decades together in the studio amassing hundreds of albums-worth of masters.”

What’s New?: I’ll tell you what’s new. Rick Springfield’s The Early Sound City Sessions has been released on November 20,2007 and is the hottest release of the year on Sonic Past Music! Check out the amazing 5-star insider review posted on Amazon.

This release is a rare glimpse into the anthology of Rick’s past, before mega stardom. Containing the previously unreleased original 1978 demo recordings from Sound City Studios in LA of songs that were later re-recorded for the Beautiful Feelings album, The Early Sound City Sessions also contains “Still Got The Magic,” a song that has never been released commercially until now!

We are now in the process of preparing to distribute Elvis Presley’s original Sun Sessions released in Europe in 1955; actually some of these tracks have never been heard here in the U.S.A. It is on Poppy Disc Records out of Scotland. This is historical Elvis Presley! I ask why did they send all the good masters to Europe in the 50’s? “I don’t know” this CD should have about 25 tracks on it and though many of these songs have been heard here. Over the years these tracks and different mixes were released here with the added bonus of about 5 tracks.

Speaking of Elvis Presley, Sheila Ryan Caan has just completed the first draft of her book Fame On Me, which is an intimate and truly honest revealing story of her days with the King. She was living at Graceland and traveling with the King.

Sonic Past Music has entered into a deal with Sony Records Japan on one CD from our Catalog to be released by Sony Japan February 20,2008. We are now discussing more additional releases for Japan. As the Japanese are the Ambassadors of music to China lets say we are hoping to introduce the Chinese to the best missed music of the 60s 70s and 80s that have been the hidden Treasures until now.

Next, we will bring you Jackdaw, the previously unreleased 90s rock supergroup featuring John McFee (Doobie Brothers, Clover) on lead vocals and guitar, the late, great Keith Knudsen (Doobie Brothers) on drums, and Stu Cook (Creedence Clearwater Revival) on bass. His role as Dr. Drake on ABC Daytime coincided with the chart-climbing hit “Jessie’s Girl” from his album Working Class Dog in 1980. Even as his acting career was taking off in the early ‘80s, Springfield was first and foremost a musician at heart. It’s time to set the record straight about one of our upcoming releases that we’ve received a lot of questions about - the Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham Sound City Sessions. We licensed their unreleased recordings from Carman Productions, Inc. about a year ago, and it seemed that all the paperwork was in order to give us the go-ahead to release it. Unfortunately, it appears that this was not the case, and that this CD will not see the light of day. Maybe someday we’ll see…

We’ll be releasing Rick Springfield’s early recordings from Sound City very soon, and these tracks are so cool! They have his original musicians, and a track or two that have never been released before.

We are also involved in some new projects with John McFee (Doobie Brothers, Clover.) After John finishes up this year’s Doobies tour, as well as producing Carlene Carter’s new album (not an SPM release, but it will be amazing!) he’ll be producing a couple of upcoming SPM releases…

First off - Jackdaw is the melodic hard rock project he fronted in the early 90s, featuring John McFee on lead guitar/vocals, Stu Cook (Credence Clearwater Revival) on bass and the late, great Keith Knudsen (Doobie Brothers) on drums. John and Stu will be heading into the studio to remix this never-released classic, featuring a diverse mix of well-crafted tunes and some truly incredible musicianship!

John will also be producing Takako, SPM’s first Japanese artist - this should be something to watch!

We’ve made a deal with Sony Music Japan to license them The Millennium’s Pieces album for distribution and sale in Japan and Asia. The Millennium is a cult favorite of the Japanese since the 1970s. This will also put this SPM product in the Sony/Columbia roster to be distributed further worldwide.

The Book: Sheila Ryan Caan has finished the first complete draft of her book on her life with Elvis Presley, titled Fame On Me, and it is beautiful. We are now beginning the process of sorting out her publishing deal and getting the book released. We have also had several meetings relating to a movie for television, if not a major film release.

We are in the process of putting new marketing and distribution deals together, so we will have broader reach in the marketplace. We also have been upgrading our catalog as well as setting up our infrastructure to accommodate more upcoming releases.

Sonic Past Music has been revamping its entire structure the past few months. We have signed a book deal for the lovely Sheila Ryan Caan, former fianceé of Elvis Presley and ex-wife of James Caan. We have also expanded our catalog which is a never-ending pleasure for the music fans. This month we brought you Les Emmerson of the Five Man Electrical Band with 10 tracks that blow your head off, it’s almost like Pet Sounds with the gonzo spin of Emmerson. We are adding to the Catalog a classic release that you won’t even believe, the early 90s recording project of John McFee and Keith Knudsen of the Doobie Brothers with Stu Cook of Creedence Clearwater Revival. As well as the never released Rick Springfield album that actually has a never before released track for all you Rick fans. In the months to come we plan too double our inventory with more precious never before released tracks from your favorite STARS of the 60’s 70’s and 80’s Keep an eye on Sonic Past Music for all the up coming news and releases.

Release One:
“Hotter than the Fourth of July” is what Stevie Wonder once said. We at SPM are getting hotter everyday with some outrageous new releases, like Les Emmerson from the Five Man Electrical Band, this album was to be released after the signs recording’s but never made it out. It is surprisingly mind blowing because of the extra ordinary talent of Les Emmerson and his production and arrangements, this guy comes amazingly close to some of the Pet Sounds tracks in that era honestly check it out you’ll be happy you did.

Release Two:
Rick Springfield’s 1978 release that never made it out with these musicians and even a never before heard track, and a great one I will add so all you Rick fans who say that you have every track Rick ever made…NOT here’s one for you this album has songs previously heard on earlier releases but never with this cast of musicians and production…a bit funkier a little raw and guess what that’s the way we like it Don’t We, Check it out.

Release Three:
A long awaited, never-before released project from the early 90s - Stu Cook, John Mcfee and Keith Knudsen (former members of The Doobie Brothers and Creedence Clearwater Revival, who were once known together as Southern Pacific) these guys obviously made some amazing music over the past 40 years, and we are proud to bring you some never before released tracks that will kick your sedentary heart and get it pumping some new blood to your ears, these guys are the real deal Lucille!

The Book:
There are so many stories in the world of music and entertainment, we at SPM bring you the best tell-all factual story about the KING Elvis Presley and the Lovely Sheila Ryan Caan in her first book, titled Fame On Me; the whole story from their heyday running from Vegas to Memphis daily with all the facts, passion and smut that has been waiting 30 years to surface. Sheila, Elvis’ loveliest and fairest 19 year old runaway that he met in Las Vegas and swept away to his Memphis fortress - and now Sheila tells it all after 30 years and a marriage to James Caan - now divorced she can spell it all out without anyone become insanely jealous.
